PTA HAPPENINGS: 

Attention all Lunchtime Readers participants! Join us in the gym on Monday, March 18 for our Lunchtime Readers Celebration, from 12:15-1:15. If possible, bring a sack lunch so that you can join us in the gym as soon as possible for our special presentation.

Book Fair Wednesday, March 20, 3:00pm-8:00pm.  The Ivy Hill PTA is once again partnering with Scholastic Books to bring you this year’s book fair!  Scholastic brings a wide variety of books, many at discounted prices, and refunds part of the proceeds right back to Ivy Hill!  So, come early, come often, and buy lots of books to keep those kids busy over spring break!

Be a “Star” of the evening on this OPEN MIKE NIGHT. Parents keep your calendar free for this Cultural Arts Event on March 20th to make your kids shine.  Open Mike Night is joining with this year’s Book Fair to make it more fun. Mr. Bill Buczinsky will be the performer and will have two shows at 6:15 and 7:15 that will focus on poetry.  Please see the Cultural Arts Flyer for more information.

Spring Break is right around the corner!! Are you thinking of a warm, tropical place?? If so, then join us for this month’s Dining For Dollars$$ at Tropical Smoothie Cafe, on Monday and Tuesday….March 18th and 19th. 15% of your bill goes back to Ivy Hill PTA. Spring Running Club is starting soon! We will meet after school Thursday, April 4, 11 and 18. Please see the attached Running Club flyer for details and return the Running Club permission slip by Wednesday, April 3. This is a great way to get ready for the Just Move it! We are preparing for the 2013 – 2014 school year and need your help! We are currently looking for PTA members to chair our committees for next school year. MARKET DAY: Don’t forget pick-up this month is on MONDAY, March 18th 2:45-3:30 at Ivy Hill.

Just Move it! Challenge Pre-Registration Deadline Friday, March 29th!  The Arlington Heights Council of PTAs and ABC/25 Foundation invite runners and walkers of ALL ages and abilities to participate in a 5k and 1 mile Run/Walk on April 13th that combines fitness and fun for the entire family! Entry fees increase $10 per adult after Friday March 29th and only participants who register by this date will be guaranteed a sports sack with health and wellness items from our sponsors. Want to run both races? Adult participants in the 5k Run/Walk may participate in the 1 mile race for FREE! For safety reasons only registered participants with signed waivers and bib numbers will be permitted on either race course. What’s the Senior & Tot Stroll? A ½ mile walk for children under the age of 5 accompanied by a favorite adult. Adults pay an entry fee, and all participants must have a signed waiver.  Don’t want to run or

Dear 5th grade parents: Thomas Middle School PTA is proud to offer spring Thomas spirit wear. Now is a great time to get a little something for your soon to be 6th grader.  If interested, please fill out the attached Thomas order form; be sure to enter your CURRENT SCHOOL and ROOM NUMBER.  Checks should be made payable to THOMAS MIDDLE SCHOOL PTA.  Sample sizes will be on display at Thomas Middle School on April 8th at the 6th grade Orientation.  Please take time to stop by and check the sizes.  All orders are due by Thursday, APRIL 11, 2013.  Orders will be delivered to your current elementary school. Free parking is available in the adjacent parking garage on the top floor.

It’s time to clear your bookshelves to make room for your purchases from the upcoming Ivy Hill Book Fair! The Environmental Committee will be hosting a book drive from March 11 to March 15. The books will be donated to Bernie’s Book Bank, which is a local charity whose mission is to collect and redistribute new and gently used children’s books in order to increase book ownership among at-risk children throughout Chicagoland. Collection bins will be in the Commons during the book drive. We hope to encourage students to recycle their gently used books, but new books are definitely welcome as well!

MARKET DAY: Think PIES AND CAKES this month—the more of them you order, the more money we earn for Ivy Hill! It’s also the second FREEQUENT Buyer month. March order forms are due in the office this Wednesday, March 13th by 3:00 pm and you can order online until 11:00 pm on Thursday, March 14th at www.marketday.com. Don’t forget to enter Promo Code MARBONUS at checkout if you purchase more than $90 to get your FREE Peppercorn Pork Loin. Pick-up this month is on MONDAY, March 18th 2:45-3:30 at Ivy Hill. CONGRATULATIONS to over 400 students that participated in the Read to Succeed reading program!  Almost 3,000 reading hours were logged!  Six Flags Great America tickets will be distributed before the end of the school year.  Please contact Chris O’Doherty (codoherty5@wowway.com) or Amy Beaton (beatonfam@comcast.net) if you have any questions about the program.
