Friday Packet – April 27 – May 3

From the Principal’s Desk:
Please read the latest Eagle View for the week of April 30th  from Principal Csensich.

Please note that we are collecting gently used shoes and gently used books next week at Ivy Hill!

PTA HAPPENINGS:

It’s time to start thinking about SCHOOL SUPPLIES for the 2012-2013 school year!  New this year, order your school supplies online only at www.shopttkits.com.  Enter 1249 for school account number.  Deadline for ordering is Friday, May 25,2012. No hard copy forms will be accepted! Any questions, contact Bessie Christou 847-577-2144.

Save the date for Ms. Csensich’s campout kickoff!  Thursday, May 17th from 6-8pm, Ivy Hill families will be invited  to play, picnic and enjoy some “campfire” activities.  Rumor has it that we may have some special guests that will help us get our Principal ready for a night under the stars.  Keep your eyes peeled Friday morning for Ms. Csensich directing traffic in her jammies.  All students and staff will be welcome to participate in a pajama day to celebrate a Box Top mission complete!

Do you have any gently-used shoes that you’re looking to clear out of your house?  The Environmental Committee will be hosting a two-week shoe drive starting next week.  Look for the collection boxes in the Commons from Monday, April 30 through Friday, May 11.  The shoes will be donated to Share Your Soles, an organization that brings the shoes to people in impoverished nations around the world.  They request that the shoes be in “good” condition … so only gently used shoes can be donated.  Any questions, contact Lynette Nimmo at net02134@aol.com, Suzanne Krause at svkrause@hotmail.com, or Lynn Feder at lynnfeder@hotmail.com.

There are just a few days left to bring in your Caprisun pouches (or other juice pouches) for recycling.  May 1 is the last day for collection.  Thanks to all who participated this year!

Thank you to all Ivy families and staff members who joined the PTA for the 2012-2013 school year through the online registration process.  If you missed the deadline for online registration and want to join, please complete the attached form Welcome to PTA and return to the school office with your payment as noted on the membership form.  We are looking forward to another fun year!

The ABC/25 Foundation and the Arlington Heights Council of PTAs thank all of you who moved it for education at the Just Move it! Challenge this past weekend! Registered participants for the 5K and 1 Mile run/walk totaled 882 including 445 students. It was a great morning filled with community, fitness, and fun as students, teachers, parents, and administrators from all SD25 schools, showed school spirit and support for one another as they ran or walked across the finish line. Congratulations to Olive-Mary Stitt Elementary School and South Middle School for winning the School participation trophies!  There are still a few t-shirts left. If you are interested in purchasing a t-shirt for $10, please contact Judy Newman at cubs2win1@att.net or Diane Liigsoo at dliigsoo.ivyhill@hotmail.com for more information.  The team is already busy looking at details for next year’s event!  To help with next year’s planning, please send comments or suggestions regarding this year’s race to Doris Downing at jmichallenge@gmail.com.

There are still some openings for 2012-13 PTA Board Positions!  We need people to chair or co-chair the following committees:  Cultural Arts  ~  Fun Fair  ~  Education Fair  ~  Everybody Counts  ~  Holiday Gift Shop  ~  Membership  ~  Thomas Liaison  ~  Safety Patrol.  We would love to have you on the Board next year!!  Please contact Cassy Mrowicki (cmrowicki99@yahoo.com) or Monica Barba (monbarba@att.net) if you would like to be on one of these committees or if you have any questions about them.

Attention 5th Grade parents Thomas PTA needs you!  Each year the Thomas PTA Student Activities Committee hosts 4 main events.  We are looking for a person to chair our Halloween Party next fall, and for someone to chair the Pool Party next spring.  For more information, please contact Lisa Johnson at crazymomathome@yahoo.com.

This Sunday, April 22nd is Earth Day.  Celebrate by doing something friendly for the environment and talking to your children about ways to keep our planet clean!  In honor of Earth Day, the Environmental Committee gave each child a reusable tote bag today at school.   Hopefully they can save some waste by using these bags instead of taking plastic bags at the store!  We also came to the lunchroom today and showed the children some cool cases that were made using recycled Caprisun pouches, so they could see the results of their recycling efforts (and 20 lucky students’ names were picked in a drawing to win the cases).  Thanks to all who participated in Earth Week activities this week!

Getting ready for summer?  Getting rid of the old T-shirts and shorts?  Family & Community Involvement is hosting a “T-Shirt & Shorts” Drive April 23 – 27th for Journeys from PADS to HOPE.  The Journeys from PADS to HOPE organization helps homeless people in the Cook County area.  In the NW Suburbs alone, there are 1,200 homeless people accessing shelters with approximately 400 additional homeless people residing on streets, in cars and throughout forest preserves.  These people can use our help this summer!  They are in need of gently used summer clothing for both children and adults.  Collection boxes can be found in the commons April 23-27th.  THANK YOU in advance!

Did you know that we are recycling Caprisun pouches (as well as any other similar juice pouch) in the Commons?  The children recycle them daily at lunchtime.  We also encourage you to collect them at home and bring them to the Commons for recycling (but please make sure all the juice is gone first and they are not too sticky!).  The pouches are sent to Terracyle, an organization that recycles the pouches.  During Earth Week, we’ll be bringing in some products that Terracycle has made from these pouches for the kids to see an example of what comes from their recycling efforts!  Collection of these juice pouches will end on May 1st.  So bring them in soon!

Do you have any gently-used shoes that you’re looking to clear out of your house?  The Environmental Committee will be hosting a SHOE DRIVE the week of April 30th.  Look for the collection boxes in the Commons beginning Monday, April 30.  The shoes will be donated to Share Your Soles, an organization that brings the shoes to people in impoverished nations around the world.  They request that the shoes be in “good” condition … so only gently used shoes can be donated.

A big thank you to everyone who submitted pictures of their kids at school activities this year!  We couldn’t have made the yearbook without you!  The yearbook has been submitted to the publisher for this year, so we don’t need anymore pictures at this time, but remember to take pictures at field days and submit them for next year!

The Box Top Committee would love to thank all of the families who cheered us on and contributed to our record setting year.  With everyone’s help, we were able to raise an unbelievable $2,441.64!  A special shout out goes to our top ten contributing families!  In no particular order they are Fox, Olejniczak, Snow/Moder(ineligible), Nix, Oyen(ineligible), Nimmo, Boehm, Smith, DeGrazia, and Kalka.  One of these lucky families will win a Box Top prize pack!

I Fives go to:

Video Productions Committee:  Sandy Rueppert, Darcy Moder, Katie Fricke and Andra Morgan and all volunteers for video taping our 3rd graders this week in their fabulous show!

Market Day CommitteeDenise Schreiner and Betsy Hadley– and all the volunteers who boxed up orders this week.  And to all families who ordered from Market Day to support our school!

Environmental Awareness CommitteeLynette Nimmo, Lynn Feder, and Suzanne Krause and all volunteers for helping out this week and doing such a great job educating the kids on what they can do to help Save the Earth!
