School Happenings:

DINING FOR DOLLARS!  As a “Pepper Partner” with Chili’s restaurant (Arlington Heights location),  Ivy Hill PTA will receive 10% of every purchase (excluding taxes) from Monday, December 19th through January 31st.  Whether you are entertaining for the holidays or simply need a break from all the hustle and bustle, let Chili’s do all the cooking for you! A flyer went home in today’s backpack mail.  If you didn’t receive it or need additional Chili’s coupons to share with family and friends, please click on the link.

Don’t throw away those used or broken lights!!  The Environmental Committee is collecting used holiday string lights and extension cords.  Look for the collection box in the Commons.  The collected lights will be recycled at the end of the season.  Questions, contact Lynn Feder at lynnfeder@hotmail.com or Suzanne Krause at svkrause@hotmail.com.

Midtown Athletic Club of Palatine will donate $100 to Ivy Hill PTA for every membership purchased through a referral from Ivy Hill through December 31, 2011.  This benefit is available to Ivy Hill families AND friends, so tell your friends and family to mention Ivy Hill at the time they join and our PTA will get $100!!  JOIN NOW AND PAY NO DUES TILL 2012 AND PAY NO ENROLLMENT FEE (PROMOTION ENDS 12/31/2011).  Contact Colleen Camilo at Midtown Athletic Club, 847-991-4646 or colleen.camilo@midtown.com.

We’ve made it HALFWAY to our goal!  Let’s keep going!  With all of the cooking, the Holidays are the PERFECT time to collect BOX TOPS.  Plus, you’ll see the relatives that have been saving their Box Tops for you, too!

Family & Community Involvement AND Cub Scout Pack 468 will be sponsoring a WINGS (Women In Need Growing Stronger) collection January 9-20th.  Each grade is asked to bring a specific item from a list of most needed items by the women and children assisted by the WINGS organization.  Collection boxes will be found in the Commons starting January 9th.  Kindergarten – Kleenex, 1st Grade – Baby Wipes, 2nd Grade – Toilet paper, 3rd Grade – 33 Gallon Garbage Bags, 4th Grade – Ziploc Bags (any size), 5th Grade – laundry Detergent.  Thank you in advance for your donations.

Thank you all (Michelle Gledhill, Kerry Murray, Agnes Wojtyla, Judy Newman, Lynette Nimmo, Patti Schulstad, Karen McCabe, Anita Chande, Betsy Hadley, Sandy Vasilakos, Maria Rosenfeld, Maureen Karsten) for volunteering for the Vision Screening Day at Ivy Hill on December 9th. It is so nice to have a list with more volunteers than needed. PTA would not be successful without all of you!

Musical ProductionsSandra Ruppert and Katie Fricke—and the parent volunteers for recording this week’s 1st Grade Show.  And congratulations to our 1st and 5th graders for 4 wonderful performances!

The Kabuki Children’s Troupe of Damine Village, Aichi, Japan performs Kabuki in Arlington Heights on Friday January 20, at 7:00PM, South Middle School.

Holiday Gift Shop committee, Shanin Trivanovic, Lisa Vates, and Krysta Zyck, and all the volunteers who helped to sell and wrap the gifts and serve warm drinks and donuts!  Thanks to all the crafters and vendors who attended and brought such wonderful items for our families to purchase!  And thank you to all the Ivy Hill families who came out in the rain and took part in this great tradition!

Come Join Us at Holiday Gift Shop Tomorrow Morning!!  Saturday, December 3 from  9:00-11:30 families are invited to visit the school and purchase fabulous  low-cost items.  This year, we are also welcoming crafters and vendors who  will offer something unique for everyone.  You will find jewelry, make-up, aprons,  charms, clothing, bags, purses, rhinestone spirit wear,  flameless candles, personalized  stationary,  purses, non-slip headbands, stamps, holiday decor, tie dye t-shirts as well as many other talented crafters and their designs.  Manna gift cards will also be available for purchase.  Children can find gifts for everyone in the family and leave with them gift wrapped.  Donuts and coffee  can be purchased and hot cocoa is always complimentary.  Be sure not to miss  this very special IH tradition.  For more details, see the HGS flyer .  If you would still like to help please email Krysta Zyck  klzyck@yahoo.com to see if any positions need to be filled.

MANNA GIFT CARD orders were due today. If you didn’t get your order in or need an order form they will be available at the Holiday Gift Shop tomorrow.  All orders have to be in by the end of Holiday Gift Shop (Saturday, 12/3 at 11:30). Don’t forget your checkbook payment is due at the time of ordering.  Pick up for the gift cards are Thursday December 8th from 2:30-4:00 in the commons.
