The CHESS CLUB instructional video will be shown on Monday, November 7th after school from 3:35 to 4:30.  If your child signed up for Chess Club and would like to view the instructional video, they should come to the Commons at
the end of school on Monday.  This meeting is optional.  If your child attends this session, you should meet your child at 4:30 pm in front of the school.  The lunchtime Chess Club sessions begin the following Monday, November 14th.

Countdown to the district’s FAMILY WELLNESS FAIR.  Only 2 more weeks to go.  Mark your calendar for November 10th.  The 2nd Annual Family Wellness Fair will take place Thursday, November 10th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at South Middle School.  Prizes, Give-aways and Fun!!!!  Be prepared to get physical. Train with Former Chicago Bear, Marcus Robinson, of Max Training; play tennis; basketball and soccer skills training; learn how to Zumba and more.  Learn valuable information on health, fitness, and menu planning and be on your way to a healthier family lifestyle. Reminder: If you ordered AFFY TAPPLES, pick up is on Thursday,  October 27th in the Commons, after school.  There will be Tapples available for cash-n-carry purchases if you forgot to place your order.

Next week is RED RIBBON WEEK at Ivy Hill.  The purpose of Red Ribbon Week is to encourage our students to say “NO” to drugs.  Ivy Hill’s theme this year is “Reach for the Stars…not Drugs.”  In keeping with this theme, the students will be signing and coloring a “Star” to be displayed in the Commons in exchange for a star pencil sharpener with the theme on it.   In addition, the week’s activities are:  MONDAY: “Support Red Ribbon Week”— Wear Red, TUESDAY: “Reach for the Stars and Follow your Dreams”— Pajama Day, WEDNESDAY: “Hairs to a Drug- Free Life”— Crazy Hair Day, THURSDAY:  “Say Peace Out to Drugs”— Wear Tye-Dye, FRIDAY: ” Team Up Against Drugs”— Wear your favorite sports jersey. The Movie Night Committee for organizing a fun and exciting night for our students:  Lily Askew, Sherri Kontos, Dina McBride, Jessica Palano, and Lynn Pangle Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped stuff snack bags and chaperone the event.  We couldn’t have done it without all of the help from the parents.  A special thank you to those who donated gift cards and products, to help make our movie night a profitable evening.  Thank you to our local stores for their support – Jewel Arlington Heights, Harvest Fresh Markets, Costco  Schaumburg, Costco Lake Zurich, and Pepsico.  And of course, thank you to our studentswho attended Movie Night and whose behavior made us very proud.

MOVIE NIGHT – TONIGHT starting at 6:30PM for 3rd – 5th graders.  A small number of tickets are still available at the door for $7.  Pickup is at 8:45.

Entry forms and rules can be found in the school office or online at www.ptareflections.org/cs/student_entry_form

DINING OUT FOR DOLLARS!  Need a break from the kitchen?  Let Barnaby’s in Arlington Heights help you with dinner on either Monday or Tuesday (or both nights), October 17-1815% of your food bill will go directly to our school.   So, take that break you deserve and treat the family to a night of good food and fun (dine-in or carry-out).  Barnaby’s Coupons were sent home last week and are available on-line.

CLIP TIP – Question of the week:  Q: Should I save my box tops/Campbell’s labels all year and send them in before summer break? A: NO. Box tops only issues checks twice a year – one for a submission deadline at the end of October and another at the end of FebruarySend them in as often as you wish.  Remember that we are charting our progress in hopes to make Ms. Csensich camp overnight in spring.  Early progress will help keep us motivated!  We are keeping track of the total submitted by each family throughout the year.  As always, thank you for your help!  Do you have a clip tip, or a question?  Submit them to darcymoder@hotmail.com

EDUCATION FAIR: this year the students will be voting to select the theme of the Education Fair on Friday, October 21st .  The Fair will take place on Friday, January 13th.  Last year’s theme (with a great turn-out) was a science fair.  The choices for voting this year are:  1) Arts Fair – present on an artist, author, or musician; 2) Invention Convention; 3) Science Fair;  4) Travel Fair.  Participation forms will be sent home in November and will be due before Thanksgiving.  Discuss with your child which of these themes would be the most fun, interesting, and educational for your student and family.

Come and join the fun!!!  Bring a sleeping bag to hang out with your friends, enjoy a snack and watch the movie.  Pajamas are optional!  Doors open at 6:30 and movie begins promptly at 7:00.  This event is open ONLY to Ivy Hill Students 3rd, 4th and 5th grades.  Kindergarten – 2nd grade will have

 The Ivy Hill School directories are in and have been distributed to all PTA members.  If you haven’t joined the PTA yet, it is not too late.  Membership includes a school directory and calendar.  The directory includes class lists and contact information for school staff and Ivy Hill families.  The attached PTA membership form can be downloaded and completed.  Please return it to school via backpack mail or place in the PTA bin in the office. Everybody Counts Committee:  Robbie Cichon, Katie Fricke, Maureen Karsten and Lynette Nimmo for all of their time and commitment in making this program so informative and fun for the Ivy Hill Students.

All those who volunteered to help with and presented the Everybody Counts program to in the classrooms.  This program couldn’t happen without all of
you!

Everyone who attended this week’s PTA meeting.  Congratulations to our raffle

A special “thank you” to Mr. Hengels for all of his effort at last week’s Fun Run in cheering on our runners, providing music on the blacktop and even helping to clean up.

EVERYBODY COUNTS WEEK starts on Monday, October 3rd.

  • Monday:  first graders will learn about visual impairments and fourth graders will be studying motor and orthopedic impairments.
  • Tuesday:  third graders will learn about cognitive impairments
  • Wednesday:  the Kindergarten classes will enjoy an introduction to the Everybody Counts program, with some fun activities.
  • Thursday:  the second graders will learn about hearing impairments and the fifth graders will study learning disabilities, with the fifth graders capping off the day by staying after school to watch the educational movie “Front of the Class”.

Please have a conversation with your child about the activities they did during their presentation and what they learned.
