From the Principal’s Desk:
PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION (PTA) HAPPENINGS:
Because of the inclement weather and school closures this week, RED RIBBON WEEK has been rescheduled for next week, February 3-7. The purpose of RED RIBBON WEEK is to present a visible commitment to living a safe, healthy, and drug-free life. This year’s theme is “A Healthy Me is Drug Free.” On Monday the students will sign a pledge and receive a red silicone bracelet that says “A Healthy Me is Drug Free” and “Ivy Hill Elementary School.” Please encourage your children to wear the bracelet and participate all week long:
Monday – Wear Red! Support Red Ribbon Week
Tuesday – “Wild About Being Healthy” Wear animal print, camo or shirt with an animal on it.
Wednesday – “Crazy Hair Day!” You’d be crazy not to live a healthy, drug free life!
Thursday- “I’m Active and Healthy!” Wear your favorite sport/team shirt or colors.
Friday – “We are Ivy Hill and We Pledge to be Healthy and Drug Free!” – Spirit Wear
We are looking for volunteers to assist in the parking lot during MORNING DROP-OFF time. If you can help (even if it’s just a couple times a month) please contact Michelle Gledhill at email@example.com. Thank you!
Please join us for our next PTA Meeting on Wednesday, February 5th, at 7:00 pm in the Ivy Hill LMC. Contact PTA Co-Presidents Denise Schreiner (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Kara Janus (KMACKJAN@aol.com) with questions. We look forward to seeing you there!
FUN FAIR 2014 is next Friday, February 7th! Wristbands provide unlimited access to as many games as you want to play for the whole night! Wristbands are $12 each if you pre-order ($15 at the door). A photo booth, plus cotton candy, popcorn, pizza, hot dogs, chips, candy, and drinks, will be back at Fun Fair this year, too – all for purchase with cash only. To pre-order wristbands (for the games), use the Fun Fair pre-order form FUNFAIRFLYER. Due to the school closures this week, the deadline has been extended to Monday, February 3rd. The other side of the form also offers you the chance to volunteer at Fun Fair and/or donate food items (including soda, water, ice, or a baked item for the cake walk). MANY volunteers are needed to make Fun Fair a success, so please consider volunteering! Contact Angie Zitella (email@example.com) with any other questions.
BOX TOPS and FUN FAIR are teaming up again this year! Bring 10 box tops to the office and your family will receive a FREE bag of popcorn at the Fun Fair! Limit 1 bag of popcorn per family. Be sure to write your name on your bag and turn in your Box Tops by 2/5 to get your FREE popcorn!
BOX TOPS: VOTE WITH BOX TOPS is back! Use your BOX TOPS to vote for which FABULOUS prize will be awarded. The prizes are:
1 – Lunchtime “Jam Session” with Mr. Hengels on drums, Mrs. Opitz on piano, and Mr. Berry on bass guitar!
2 – Football Fun- Mr. Hawk has to dress in Green Bay Packer gear (he is a Bears fan). Ms. Boston needs to dress up in Bears gear-head to toe (she is a Packers fan)! Throughout the day, we will incorporate some football fun!
3 – Make a human ice cream sundae! We will have a special school assembly featuring Ms. Boston as the ice cream sundae! The kids can decide on which kind of ice cream and all classes can add their own toppings.
Earn $1000 by 2/28 and Ivy Hill gets all 3! Check our progress on the puzzle poster in the Commons. Can you figure out what we are going to purchase with the BOX TOPS money?
Save the Date! The All School ROLLER SKATING PARTY is February 13th, 6:30 – 8:30 at Orbit Roller Rink. This is always a fun night and is a free event sponsored by the PTA. Mark your calendars and plan to join us!

It’s that time of year again…the nomination process to elect the 2014-2015 PTA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE starts now! Please seriously consider which individuals you feel are qualified to serve in the following capacities: Co-President, 3rd VP (ways and means) and Treasurer. Please use this survey online at https://www.surveymonkey/s/5QJQ9P3 or print a paper copy of the 2014-2015_Officer_Nomination_Ballot (1) to nominate your friends, neighbors, or even yourself for any of these rewarding PTA positions that directly impact our children’s Ivy Hill success. The nomination box will be in the school office. The Nominating Committee will meet in late February to determine the slate of officers based on your feedback! Any questions, please call Denise Schreiner 847-259-2575. Thank you for your participation.
