ALL IVY HILL PTA MEMBERS:  Please read the proposed bylaw change being endorsed by the executive board and supported by Ms. Boston.  We will be voting on this at a very short May 1st meeting after morning drop off.  All Ivy Hill PTA members are encouraged to attend and vote on this important topic.

Proposed Bylaws Amendment
To be voted on May 1, 2014 at 9:05 am at Ivy Hill
All Ivy Hill PTA members are eligible to vote

Bylaws currently read:
ARTICLE VI – OFFICERS AND THEIR ELECTION
Section 2.
d.  A person shall not be eligible to serve more than two (2) consecutive terms in the same office.

Strike the current d. and replace it with:
d. A person shall be eligible to serve a maximum of three (3) consecutive terms in the same office;

Twelve $1,500 ARLINGTON HEIGHTS COUNCIL OF PTAs SCHOLARSHIPS are being awarded this year to local high school seniors who attended AHSD25 schools for three or more years.  The PTA Council wishes to recognize that all applicants are admirable individuals who we wish well in their future endeavors.  Follow this link to see the full list of scholarship winners who were selected through a blind and collaborative review from a pool of over 50 applicants.  This year’s winners includes former Ivy Hill student, Jack McNamara.  Congratulations to Jack and all these outstanding students!

Thanks to all students and their families who participated in this year’s BOOK FAIR. TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK is coming up!  The PTA has a lot of fun activities planned to show our appreciation for our teachers and staff the week of May 5-9th.  Please mark the following activities on your calendars so we can let our teachers and staff know how fantastic they are:
Monday, May 5th:  The Room Rep Committee has planned a fun workout for the teachers after school with Ivy Hill mom Julie Soderna.
Tuesday, May 6th: bring a baby picture to school (teachers will guess which picture belongs to which student).  The teachers will also be treated to a breakfast hosted by the Hospitality Committee.
Wednesday, May 7th: bring one flower (feel free to bring a flower from your garden; all the flowers will be assembled together to make a bouquet for the teachers)
Thursday May 8th: bring a thank you note to your teachers
Friday, May 9th: wear your teacher’s favorite color/sports team (you will receive information regarding this from your room reps).

Earth Week kicks off next week!  The ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE will be hosting the following events, April 21st – April 25th, to help celebrate Earth Week.  There will be a week long contest where we are asking students to bring empty plastic water bottles into their classroom and recycling them in the appropriate container.  The classroom that brings in the most empty plastic water bottles will win a reusable water bottle for each student.  Thank you for your help.

*  Monday- Starts the plastic water bottle recycling program and walk to school day.
*  Tuesday (April 22nd Earth Day) – Wear blue (for the oceans) or green (for the land) to school.
*  Wednesday – Students will learn about different ways to keep the environment clean and will color an environmental book in class.
*   Thursday – Students can write what they will do to help keep our Earth clean on a banner in the cafeteria.
*  Friday – Waste free lunch day!

Just Move it! Challenge Needs Volunteers and Offers Something for the Whole Family!  Spring is coming and the Arlington Heights Council of PTAs and ABC/25 Foundation invite runners and walkers of ALL ages and abilities to participate in a 5k and 1 mile Run/Walk tomorrow, Saturday, April 12th that combines fitness and fun for the entire family!   We NEED Volunteers!  Over 80 volunteers are needed to make race day successful.  Street marshal volunteers are needed for both the 5K and 1 Mile races; this is a great way to cheer on family and friends while they run or walk!  Registration, Volunteering, and Event Details are at: http://www.jmichallengeah.org.  Check out this information about the Health and Fitness Expo held in conjunction with the Just Move it! SPRING RUNNING CLUB is starting next week!  We will meet after school Wednesday, April 9th and 16th (3:35 – 4:15).  Please see the attached Spring Running Club Information 2014 for details and return the Spring Running Club Permission Slip 2014 by Tuesday, April 8th.  Please make sure your student(s) and their teacher(s) knows which day(s) they are participating.  We also need volunteers (you don’t need to run).
