Join in the Idle Free Zone campaign!  The Village of Arlington Heights is currently promoting a community awareness campaign to encourage drivers to turn off their engines while waiting in areas such as the school.  Less idling means less air pollution and less wasted fuel.  Did you know that: ◊ Idling your car for 10 seconds uses more fuel than turning off the engine and restarting it.    ◊ A car idling for 10 minutes uses as much fuel as it takes to travel 5 miles. In addition, restarting your vehicle does not harm your engine or starter, and less idling actually helps prevent fuel residue buildup and exhaust corrosion. Consider turning off your engine when waiting to drop off or pick up your children from school and extracurricular activities, or when waiting for extended periods in a drive-thru, such as the pharmacy, bank or fast food!

I Fives go to:

Running Club Committee Judy Newman and Diane Liigsoo for their hard work to make this year’s Fun Run a successful and rewarding experience for all the students!

Congratulations to all the boys and girls who ran 1 or 2 miles during the Ivy Hill Fun Run yesterday!  And a great big thank you to all the Ivy Hill parents and students who volunteered along with a large group of Buffalo Grove HS students.   Thank you to Principal Boston and all of the Ivy Hill Teachers and Staff who came out to help and root on our runners!  Thank you also to our School Resource Officer, Jeff Aiello, for leading our 2 mile runners and supplying the yellow safety vests for our volunteers.  Finally, we would like to thank our sponsors who provided food and giveaways for all the runners: Wheeling Auto Center, Mariano’s Fresh Market, Harvest Fresh and O-Nits. Stay tuned to next week’s Friday Packet for the grand total of how much money we raised for Special Olympics Illinois.

Spirit Wear Committee – Kim Ramos, Karen Roberts, Dina Oberman, and Lynn Pangle for all of their time in choosing such great Ivy Hill clothes and coordination of the new options for this year.  Thanks also to everyone who ordered Spirit Wear!

Our Third Co-Vice President’s, Colleen Wytmar and Carla Kim for getting us starting with our first Dining for DollarsThanks also to all the families who participated by ordering from Nino’s this week.

Safety Patrol CommitteeJennifer Baumeister—and all of our 5th grade patrols for getting our students off to a safe start this year at school!
