PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION (PTA) HAPPENINGS:

Please join us for our next PTA Meeting on Wednesday, October 2nd, at 7:00 pm in the Ivy Hill LMC.  Contact PTA Co-Presidents Denise Schreiner (deniseschreiner@sbcglobal.net) or Kara Janus (KMACKJAN@aol.com) with questions.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Big news from the BOX TOP committee:  There have been some exciting changes with our vote counting in the last week.   Dance DVDs have moved from last place to first!  Playground balls are in second place and basketballs are a VERY close third. If we raise $1,000 by the end of the October, all three prizes will be awarded!  So far this year, Ivy Hill families have earned $450.  We are almost half way there!  Questions?  Contact Darcy Moder at darcymoder@hotmail.com.

Unlock the artist in you!  All students are welcome to take part in this year’s REFLECTIONS theme “Believe, Dream, Inspire.”  For rules and entry forms please see the Reflections binder in the Ivy Hill office.  You can also use the following links.  For general rules visit  http://www.ilpta-d37.org/resources/reflections/Appendix_F_13-14_General_Participation_Rules.pdf.  For entry forms, visit http://www.ilpta-d37.org/resources/reflections/Appendix_G_13-14_Student_REFLECTIONS_Entry_Form.pdf.  PLEASE NOTE – Do NOT include the student’s name on the front of the project, only on the entry form or on the back of the entry.  All entries are due in the school office by Friday, October 25th.  Any questions?   Please contact Lori Ann Oyen (847-255-1195) or Michelle Marsicek (224-388-1389).

YANKEE CANDLE FUNDRAISER –  Please support the ABC/25 Foundation by offering these high-quality products to your friends and family!  Your purchase will support the annual ABC/25 Foundation Teacher Grants.  40% of sales goes to ABC/25.  Last year, the Foundation funded 74 grants, totaling $20,263 across all District 25 schools.  Yankee Candle packets were sent home last Friday.  The sale ends October 7th.  When you order through this fundraiser, you pay no sales tax and no delivery fees!  Yankee Candle products make excellent gifts for holidays, birthdays, hostess gifts, teacher gifts, anniversaries, housewarmings and more!  New this year: Out of town family and friends can shop online and have their order shipped to them (they will pay shipping costs online; orders here in the Chicagoland area should all be included on the hard copy of the order form as there is no shipping fee for families and product will be delivered to the school just like in years past).  See the attached ABC 25 Yankee Candle Sale Info or contact Archana Shukla (archana.shukla08@gmail.com) for more information.

MOVIE NIGHT for grades 3-5 is October 11th at 6:30 pm.  Kids are encouraged to wear their pajamas and bring a sleeping bag, pillow, and their favorite stuffed animal to enjoy the movie.  Permission slips will be included in next week’s Friday Packet.  Questions?  Contact Rich Olejniczak (richole@ameritech.net) or Amy Hoffman (amye_hoffman@wowway.com).

The 6th Annual Ivy Hill Fun Run is Thursday, September 26. The students selected PAWS Chicago to receive our donation this year. Runners can choose a 1 or 2 mile route through the neighborhood surrounding Ivy Hill School. The Fun Run is set up like a race for the kids (although it is not competitive) with each runner wearing a race number, running through the finish chute and receiving refreshments at the finish line. Each runner is asked to make a $3 donation to participate and all proceeds will be donated to PAWS Chicago. See the online Friday Packet for full details and the  Ivy Hill 2013 Fun Run Registration Form. Please return your registration form by Monday, September 23 to ensure we have enough goodies for all the runners. Please consider volunteering to help with the Fun Run. We need lots of adults along the course to ensure this is a safe event for our children. You do not need to be a “runner” to help! Questions?  Contact Louann Benbow at benbowunit@gmail.com.

The BOX TOP voting is in full swing.  So far, Ivy Hill families have raised $200 with the  Box Top votes that have been submitted. Playground balls are in the lead, followed closely by basketballs, and dance DVDs are trailing behind.   Voting will be open in the office through October.  If our results make you happy, be sure to vote and keep your favorite in the lead.  If your favorite items aren’t in the top spot, bring in your labels and tops and see if your votes can make a big change!  Remember, if we raise $1,000 by the end of the contest, all three prizes will be awarded!  Questions?  Contact Darcy Moder at darcymoder@hotmail.com.

The REFLECTIONS program is underway!!  The theme “Believe, Dream, Inspire” can be demonstrated through a variety of artistic mediums.  Draw or paint a picture, write a poem or a story, capture it in a photo!  The sky is the limit of our children’s creative expression!  For rules and entry forms please see the Reflections binder in the Ivy Hill office. All entries are due Friday, October 25th.  Any questions?   Please contact Lori Ann Oyen (847-255-1195) or Michelle Marsicek (224-388-1389).
