From the Principal’s Desk:
PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION (PTA) HAPPENINGS:
The PTA Meeting on Tuesday, January 7th was canceled due to severe weather. With the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday this month, we are not able reschedule it. We hope you can make it to our next meeting Wednesday, February 5th at 7 pm. Contact PTA Co-Presidents Denise Schreiner (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Kara Janus (KMACKJAN@aol.com) with questions.
The ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE is continuing two recycling programs taking place at Ivy Hill. We are collecting old holiday string lights for recycling this holiday season. You can bring them in to school now through Friday, January 17th, 2014. We are also participating in Crayola ColorCycle. This program turns Crayola markers into energy and helps kids understand the importance of their role in protecting the environment. We will be collecting dried out markers in the commons and sending them to a conversion facility where they will be transformed into clean-burning fuel. This recycling program will be on going until the end of the school year. Thanks for doing your part to keep these items out of our landfills! When we all do our own small part, it adds up to a big difference! If you have any questions about these programs, please contact Leah Robideau (email@example.com).
The FAMILY AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT COMMITTEE will be organizing a charity drive in January for WINGS Program Inc. from January 13 – January 31. WINGS helps homeless and abused women and children by offering integrated services that meet their needs for shelter, education, guidance and support. They provide safe, secure living environments, through transitional housing and emergency shelter, in residential neighborhoods that allow women to go to school, work, and achieve financial and emotional independence. The committee is requesting the following items based on grade level.
Kindergarten – Baby Wipes
First Grade – Garbage Bags
Second Grade – Toilet Paper
Third Grade – Paper Towels
Fourth Grade – Dish Detergent
Fifth Grade – Diapers, size 3-6
Please leave your donations in the designated boxes found in the Commons area. If you have any questions, please contact Linda Boehm (847-253-5226) or Sharon Bank (847-577-4376). Thank you for your support.
